Welcome...

The Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Louisiana Tech University is hosting a cancer walk event to increase awareness of Ovarian Cancer. We are asking for your support as we present the “Pamela H. Watson Ovarian Cancer Walk” on  SATURDAY, APRIL 25th to be held at the Louisiana Tech University Track Field.

Ovarian Cancer, the fifth leading cause of death in women, is the malignant growth of cells in or around the ovaries, often spreading to other parts of the body as it advances through the five stages. Sometimes called “the silent killer,” it is usually undetectable until the latter of the five stages, which makes treatment more difficult. According to ovariancancer.gov, “One in 95 women will die from ovarian cancer.”

My mother, Pamela H. Watson, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in October 2004. Months later, a hysterectomy was performed to remove the football-size tumor in her abdomen. Chemotherapy, a short remission, the return of the cancer and more chemotherapy drained all of her strength in battling this life-threatening disease. Still, she sought treatment at MD Anderson in Houston and the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Chicago. In early August 2007, hospice care was ordered and just two short weeks later, she was gone.

Witnessing my mother’s battle with this “silent killer,” it is an honor to introduce our fraternity-sponsored event, to increase awareness of Ovarian Cancer with all proceeds going to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Having seen the positive results from breast cancer walks and related events, I propose that the Pamela H. Watson Ovarian Cancer Walk can similarly heighten awareness, thereby helping with early detection and effective treatments.

We ask for your donation of any amount, to help make this event an enormous success. For more information, please contact me via telephone at (985) 502-3221 or via email at cancer@atozetachi.com

 Sincerely,
